Unique partnership leads to tuition-free college

LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Whitmer presented a budget that called for increased funding in education to help fill Michigan’s talent pipeline, with that call-to-action, the state is highlighting educational opportunities that prepare students to fill the skills gap and get a head start on their postsecondary education.
Launch U is a specialized early college program for eligible Kent ISD high school students, by extending school by one year they earn their diploma, a general associate degree or a specialty associate degree in Mechanical Design from Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). Students also have the option to graduate with industry recognized certificates, without extending beyond their 12th grade.

…Laurie Chesley, provost and executive vice president for academic and student affairs at Grand Rapids Community College, will become president of Central Oregon Community College on July 1. She will succeed Shirley Metcalf, who plans to retire.
Ryan Brady Named Head Coach of SVSU Football Program

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Saginaw Valley State University Director of Athletics John Decker has announced that Ryan Brady has been named the seventh head coach of SVSU Football. Brady comes to Saginaw Valley after serving as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Ferris State University.
…Prior to Ferris State, Brady coached at Grand Rapids Community College from 2009-2011 as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The Raiders posted a 30-4 overall record in the three seasons and had the highest scoring offense in the nation all three years.
