GRCC Retiree Biography: Jody Graves

Jody Graves began her GRCC career in March of 1985 in the non-credit Business and Technical Training Department. She spent her first two years, onsite at a local manufacturing company, developing and training their workforce on software specific to their mid-range computer system. She developed and conducted word processing, spreadsheet, and database training to local businesses and became the coordinator of our micro-computer training department.

“In 1997, when Windows and the internet arrived, I moved to the Staff Development Department and trained faculty and staff on how to use this exciting new technology!,” she said. “This even included some live television on our College Channel, which was a very interesting experience!”

In 1999, Jody was transferred to the IT department and assisted with our conversion to PeopleSoft in the areas of reporting and training. She was then moved to the Learning Academy for Faculty and Staff for a short time, conducting PC training for employees. After that, she returned to IT, in her current position of Enterprise Analyst, specializing in business process, training, reporting, and implementing PeopleSoft functionality, primarily in the student records area.

“Preparing for retirement, Ron and I have sold our home and are currently living in our fifth-wheel in an RV park in Ionia,” she said. “It is tiny house living at its finest! We have recently purchased a home in Cypress Lakes, located in Lakeland, Florida. This will be our permanent residence but we will return to Michigan and our fifth-wheel for a few months each summer. We are looking forward to warm weather, sunshine, no snow, and Tigers Spring Training! We are making plans to go to the Daytona 500 next year, something that is on Ron’s bucket list!

“I have truly enjoyed the last 34 years and I have made many forever friends along the way. It’s been an incredible journey and I will miss you GRCC and all of the people that I have had the pleasure to work with. I could not have done it without all of you! Dr. Seuss said it best, ‘Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!'”

Jody, thank you for all of your dedicated service to GRCC! We will miss you and with you and Ron safe and fun travels to Florida! We look forward to hearing about your adventures!
