One Good Thing: Grand Rapids Community College

Nick LaFave: “Going off to college can be an intimidating adventure, so a local college did everything it could to make it a bit easier for their incoming freshmen. Raider Nation Day at Grand Rapids Community College connected new students with campus resources at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse. GRCC staff wanted to get them acclimated to their new surroundings and just let them know they’re not alone. Current students talked to the new ones about their own transitions from high school to college and how they prepared. There were also sessions on academic success strategies and expectations on their new college culture. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you go off to college – I know I did when I was young – GRCC Raider Nation Day did everything they could to help them in that process and it gets today’s ‘One Good Thing.’”
