Jets Sign TE Nick Truesdell, Waive CB Derrick Jones

The Jets have signed tight end Nick Truesdell and waived cornerback Derrick Jones.

The well-traveled Truesdell, who played collegiately at Cincinnati and also attended Grand Rapids Community College, first signed with the Jets Aug. 4 before he was released two days after. He had a couple of stints in the Indoor Football League (IFL) and multiple stops in the Arena Football League (AFL) and had brief stays with the Colts and the Vikings and most recently played with the Salt Lake Stallions in the Alliance for American Football. The 6’5”, 246-pounder combined to catch 127 balls for 1,527 yards with 38 touchdowns in the AFL.

New J-Hawks coach treating Jefferson like a ‘startup’

ROCKFORD – In November 1993, Jefferson was finishing up its eighth playoff season in the previous nine years under football coach Joe Blume.

… “I don’t care about the history. (Winning) has to happen sooner or later,” said (Jacob) Arnold, a Plainfield North graduate who played football at Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan and the College of DuPage before finishing up at Rockford University.

Retirement information sessions set for Aug. 19-20

Call for proposals

The Student Leadership Conference is an annual event open to all GRCC students who want to gain more experience in leadership and want to learn more about how manage a student organization. The theme this year is “oh, the places you’ll go!”

Conference style sessions will consist of:

  • Communication within student organizations
  • The ups and downs of being in a leadership role.
  • Self care as a student leader.
  • Time management.
  • Using and managing Raider Connect.
  • Managing student organization funds.
  • Conflict management.
  • Programming and advertising.
  • Marketing strategies for self and for student organizations.

Student Affairs professionals are invited and highly encouraged to submit a proposal in order to present. The conference will take place on Friday, Sept. 13th, 8:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. All sessions are 45 minutes long. Presenters can choose a time block that fits their schedule best. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for presenters. Sessions will take place at the Applied Technology Center of GRCC. For more information please contact Thalía 616-234-2476.

Grant opportunity: Support Staff Professional Development (SSPD) Grant

The GRCC Grants Department is accepting applications for the Support Staff Professional Development (SSPD) grant program. The purpose of the award is to encourage support staff to improve their professional skills related to their GRCC assignments. Awards are for amounts up to $2,500 and the deadline is September 20, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.

The SSPD Application packet and Guidelines are available on the Grants Department webpage. Please note that applications must include a supervisor’s approval form, a budget form, and budget documentation.
