AWIS pushes for inclusion within STEM with kick off event

The West Michigan chapter of the Association of Women in Science (AWIS) remains the largest multidisciplinary organization for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This organization continues to impact others daily by pushing towards gender equity in science.

… “We have networking events and professional development events,” (Karen) Gipson said. “We also rent workshops for faculty and students to take that next step in their career. We participate in a lot of outreach events like the Math and Science Center, Chemistry at the Mall, and even our own event: Fall in Love with STEM. This is at Grand Valley, GRCC and Hope college. GVSU students and faculty host middle school students during this event.”

Applications open for Bragg Harvard MuhammadSmith scholarship

The application period is now open for the $3,000 The Bragg Harvard MuhammadSmith Why We Can’t Wait scholarship.

Students can apply online for the 2019 – 2020 scholarship from Friday, September 6, to Sunday, November 10, 2019.

Registration deadline extended for Student Leadership Conference

Registration for the Student Leadership Conference has been extended until Tuesday, September 10, at 5:00 p.m.

The Student Leadership Conference is open to all GRCC Students at no cost. The conference is held from 8:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. in the ATC Building 2nd floor this Friday, Sept. 13. This is a mandatory event for student organizations to attend. For questions please contact Thalia in Student Life thaliaguerraflores@grcc.edu.

Techsmith Relay Trainings this Fall

Are you interested in learning more about TechSmith Relay, the “easiest-to-use educational video platform?” Relay is accessible, integrates with Blackboard, adds quizzing and analytics. It also provides “cloud” hosting, including the ability to pull in other videos like YouTube. In this session, we will cover how to access, download, install and use the recorder. We’ll also show you how to edit or import videos. Finally, we’ll show you how to use the new Blackboard integration.

World Peace Day

Hi Everyone,

 

World Peace Day 2019 will be celebrated at GRCC on Thursday, September 19 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  It takes place outdoors in the Dr. Juan Olivarez Commons area (with Raider Grill as a rain location).  But like most grand events here on campus, it requires involvement from faculty and staff to make it a success. Follow the link below to add your name to the sign up sheet and volunteer to set up, take down, help with beading and origami tables, Yarn Community Building, freebie and cookie stations, or direct foot traffic.  There will also be chalk art, a DJ and Zumba with Beth Damon, Fable the Poet Laureate from Diatribe, a presentation from Maryann Lesert, and more.
