College president wins marketing award

A local college president has received a regional award for his efforts in marketing and communications.
Bill Pink, president of Grand Rapids Community College, was named the 2019 Pacesetter for District 3 of the Albuquerque, New Mexico-based National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, or NCMPR.
Colleges Get Lessons in Helping People Finish Their Degrees

A second cohort of colleges is undergoing an online program to learn how to help their students complete long-unfinished degrees. “Degrees When Due,” an initiative run by the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP), includes a nine-month online learning experience with guided lessons in “implementing degree-reclamation strategies” and live coaching from expert practitioners. IHEP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and advocacy organization focused on promoting postsecondary access and success for all students.
… Among those participating are Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Minnesota, Shasta College in California and Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan.
Trampoline, rock climbing park coming to Shops at Westshore

HOLLAND — A new indoor entertainment attraction featuring trampolines, dodgeball courts, and rock climbing is set to open next year at The Shops at Westshore.
An Urban Air Adventure Park franchise location will open in suite 190 where Chuck E. Cheese formerly operated at 12331 James St. in Holland. The attraction will be located directly north of the former J.C. Penney building — which will soon house Grand Rapids Community College.
Kentwood PD Chief Hillen retiring after 42-year career

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — After more than 40 years in law enforcement, Kentwood’s police chief is retiring.
… (Thomas) Hillen also served as a leader or adviser for numerous law enforcement groups and programs, including the Kent County Chiefs of Police, Kent County’s Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Team and police academies at Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College and Kent Career Technical Center.
