Father ordered to stand trial for manslaughter after son with autism drowns in family pool

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — The dad of an autistic teen who drowned last March appeared in court Thursday, Dec. 12.

… His defense attorney argued that (Timothy) Koets’ wife was home at the time and that his client told his wife to wake up to watch Samuel, while he headed back to work. Koets is an associate professor at Grand Rapids Community College.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Three businesses planning to open in Grand Rapids are getting a boost from the city’s Downtown Development Authority.

… In 2017, Gilma De La Cruz earned a certification in food and beverage safety and restaurant management from the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education at Grand Rapids Community College, according to the DDA. The two have also participated in events sponsored by Start Garden.

GRCC culinary students create magical land of sweets

It’s a Land of Sweets worthy of a regal Nutcracker Prince.

Now on display at DeVos Performance Hall, the larger-than-life candy land was created by students in the Pastry Centerpieces and Wedding Cakes in the Secchia Institute for Contemporary Arts. The sugary and artistic display is a rendition of the second act of “The Nutcracker Ballet,” designed under the tutelage of Professor Gilles Renusson.
