College fires professor charged in death of teen son with severe autism

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids Community College fired Timothy Koets, a professor charged with involuntary manslaughter and child abuse in the death of his teen son with severe autism, officials confirmed Monday, Feb. 17.

The food scene in West Michigan continues to expand and garner high accolades, and the American Culinary Federation Awards will recognize the individuals and partners who have cultivated West Michigan’s thriving food and beverage marketplace.

Volunteers needed to help with NJCAA basketball tournament at GRCC

GRCC Athletics is hosting the NJCAA Great Lakes Regional Basketball Tournament, coming up on March 5-7, and we are looking for volunteers to help us welcome 16 teams from across Michigan to Grand Rapids and GRCC as they compete for a chance at a national title.

We are looking for two types of volunteers for the event, and volunteers would be scheduled for approximately 4-hour shifts and can help as either a Team Liaison or a Marketing/Halftime Coordinator.

Team Liaison: Primary contact for participating team. Facilitate locker room access, escort team throughout fieldhouse, address any issues or concerns the team may have.

Marketing/Halftime Coordinator: Work with marketing team to coordinate halftime contests, contestant selection and sponsor promotion.

Student Leadership Banquet 2020

Registration for the Student Leadership Banquet 2020 “Only One You” is now up! The Student Leadership Banquet will take place on Thursday, March 26th at 5:30 pm at the High Five GR. Please register on Raider Connect, deadline to register is Friday, March 6th 11:59pm. This event is FREE to all Staff, Faculty and Students. If you would like to bring a guest that is not a GRCC Staff/Faculty, there will be a $25 charge per person for their admittance. That fee can be paid at the office of Student Life and Conduct.

Nominations for the Student Leader Awards are also now up. The criteria and the nomination form can be found at this link. Any staff, faculty, or student can nominate another student or themselves.
