… Grand Rapids Community College announced that the fall 2020 semester will consist of a robust schedule of hybrid and enhanced distance learning options as administrators plan to offer some classes on campus. How Grand Rapids remade its craft beer scene into the best in the nation

April 26, 2020; matadornetwork.com

There are more than 7,000 breweries in the US, and the number is only growing. In some parts of the country, it feels like a new craft brewery opens up every week. Only one city, however, rightfully goes by the moniker Beer City USA, and that’s Grand Rapids, Michigan.

… These days, the city draws students from around the nation interested in learning the craft of brew. At Grand Rapids Community College, the Fountain Hill Brewery is operated by students studying towards their Craft Brewing, Packaging, and Service Operations certificates — and if you visit on a Wednesday or Thursday evening, you can put their study skills to the test in the taproom.

Faculty panel to examine remote instruction on May 27

No one actually planned to teach remotely this past winter semester, but in the middle of March, and within just a few days, we found ourselves shifting unexpectedly from face-to-face to remote instruction. This sudden shift required many of us to quickly learn and adopt new tools, methods, and processes in an effort to continue providing students with continuity of instruction and support.

We have asked a few faculty colleagues to share their experiences in an upcoming DLIT panel discussion on the topic: Remote Teaching – Lessons Learned. This panel discussion will focus on what we did, what worked, what didn’t work so well, and what we need to consider going forward.

Garry Brand will be facilitating the discussion along with panelists: Steve Abid, Christine Dobberstein, and Tamara Scott. I hope you will join us, share your own experiences, and lessons learned.

What: Faculty Panel Discussion: Remote Teaching – Lessons Learned

When: Wednesday, May 27, 2020 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Where: Online via Zoom.

You may also register for the event though the CTE Professional Development Registration webpage. Hope to see you then!

A link to a recording of this session will be posted to the DLIT Blog following the session along with previous panel discussions, including Assessing Learning Online and GRCC Distance Learning Standards.
