How to Stay Secure at Home

Missed the How to Stay Secure at Home session? Interested to know what we covered? Contact ITSecurity@grcc.edu and let us know! We will be happy to share with you the presentation slides.

When you learn something new, share it with friends and family so they too can learn to be Cyber Safe.

Your Home Office
The following are things to keep in mind while you are working from home:

  • Location: Is your computer screen viewable through a ground level window? Ex: A ground-level window should NOT be facing the direction of your computer screen
  • GRCC Device
~Be sure only YOU are using your GRCC computer/laptop
~Keep your device UPDATED – You might need to go to the Admin parking lot – It takes about 30 minutes to Download Updates – You only need to stay until the updates say Install Pending
  • Secure your home Wi-Fi
~Be sure a strong password is set for when you connect to your Wi-Fi
~Change the default Admin credentials that come on your network device to a new username and password
~Update the firmware/allow for automatic updates
  • Keep devices such as Alexa, Google Home, and baby monitors away from your work space – These could potentially acquire GRCC sensitive information discussed during a conference call.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at ITSecurity@grcc.edu.
