Construction continues at the new GRCC Lakeshore Campus, but students can already start taking advantage of the site, as Wi-Fi is now extending into the parking lot on the west side of the project.
Grand Rapids Community College is transforming the former JCPenney in the Shops at Westshore mall into the new, consolidated GRCC Lakeshore Campus, located at 12331 James St, in Holland Township.
The 50,000-square-foot building is being renovated to include classrooms and labs for the schools of Workforce Development and Arts and Sciences. It also will include student services such as testing, counseling, placement, and a satellite library.
“Many classes are being conducted online during the pandemic, and we want to close the technology gap and make sure everyone has access to a strong Internet signal,” GRCC President Bill Pink said. “Lakeshore students will be able to tap into the Wi-Fi from their cars, and connect with classes or the resources they need to be successful. This project is one more example of GRCC’s commitment to students in the Lakeshore.”
