Construction on Ottawa Avenue – from Fulton Street to Michigan Street- begins on Wednesday, June 16

Construction working moving equipment.

Contractors will begin construction on Ottawa Avenue (Fulton Street to Michigan Street) on Wednesday, June 16. The street is expected to reopen to full traffic before ArtPrize begins in September. Timing this project with the current closure of eastbound I-196 provides an opportunity to complete much of the work without added traffic exiting on Ottawa. Streetscaping and landscaping work will be completed by next spring.

Contractors will begin working on the east side of the street and then move to the west side. While work is occurring on the east side of the street, one lane of traffic will be maintained on the west half of the street along with the parking lane to be available as loading zones for businesses.

When work shifts to the west side, one lane of traffic will be maintained with the parking lane on the east side of the street available as a loading zone.

Pedestrian access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the project.

The First Lady and the national media won’t be on hand, but the second shot of the COVID-19 vaccine is just as important for the people who attended GRCC’s pop-up clinic last week.

Second doses of the shot will be available at Rite Aid on 2410 Burton St. SE, in Grand Rapids from noon to 6 p.m. on June 17.

Thank you for doing your part to help the GRCC community get beyond the pandemic!
