Highlighting staff who help our students

Always remember, at GRCC, you are surrounded by people who want you to be successful and are ready to walk with you on your educational pathway. We are here to help!

Meet Valerie Butterfield. As GRCC’s registrar, she and her team in the Student Records Office help with transcripts and enrollment verification, which might be needed for employment, housing, and food assistance.

Her team members are the stewards of student records and are the office that would correct student information. If you need to change their name or academic program, they are the people who helps with that.

The team also works closely with GRCC students who served in the armed forces, helping them get the benefits they are entitled to.

Valerie is a proud community college graduate, attending Henry Ford College in Dearborn before earning a bachelor of Public Affairs from Wayne State University and a Master of Public Administration from University of Michigan – Dearborn.

She has been GRCC’s registrar since 2016. Valerie worked at Henry Ford from 2012 to 2016, first as an enrollment associate and then as an enrollment administrator assisting students, prospective students, and parents with admissions, registration, records, financial aid, and student accounting.

“I was a community college student, and it is great to have a career at a great school like GRCC and be a part of the team serving our students from enrollment to graduation,” she said. “Seeing students transfer on to their next school or degree and to see them walk across the stage at commencement is what this is all about!”

If you have any questions or need additional assistance, contact the Student Records Office via email at studentrecords@grcc.edu, by phone at (616) 234-4121. The team is temporarily located on the third floor of the Student Center while its offices in Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall are being renovated.
