One Good Thing: Lina Blair

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Time for One Good Thing — someone or something that makes West Michigan a good place to live. A Grand Rapids Community College staff member was recently honored by her alma mater for her work during the pandemic.

The Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter (ABC/WMC) is launching a new trade education center to fill the talent gap in construction.

… The electrical program is a partnership with Grand Rapids Community College, which will move its more than 400 students currently enrolled in electrical apprenticeships to the WMCI facility beginning in January.

92% of college freshmen are optimistic about their lives, poll finds

The pandemic, a not-so-distant recession and a politically polarized America notwithstanding, first-year college students are overwhelmingly optimistic about their future, even if they’re less confident about the direction of the country and the world, a new poll found.

… “I’m super optimistic about my life because, if I can go to college and have all these opportunities in the midst of a pandemic, I don’t think that there’s much that can stop me,” said Kelsi VanOrder, 17, who’s attending Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan.
