Grand Rapids, GRCC training local chefs to prepare for disasters

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — West Michigan chefs will be better prepared to step up during disasters thanks to special training hosted by Grand Rapids Community College’s Secchia Institute for Culinary Education and city officials.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Wild game, turkey, herbs, weeds, duck, duck eggs, root vegetables and fish were all a part of the diet that the Indigenous people of Michigan ate centuries ago, said Myriah Williams of the Pokagon Band of Potawatami Indians.

… Monday, she prepared a super juice made with maple syrup, water, pine needles, winter greens and cranberry juice. She made it for the people attending the Decolonized Diet program at Grand Rapids Community College.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Grand Rapids Community College will launch a paid apprenticeship program designed for high school graduates to access careers within the employee benefits and health sectors.
