Beverly Ann Drake unexpectedly departed from this world at home on December 18, 2021.
She was born at St. Mary’s Hospital on December 3, 1941. She was the second born child to Gerald Talton and Betty Jane Brown. She attended Sheldon Elementary School, south High School, Grand Rapids Junior College, Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University. Everyone who knew her, knew her as a scholar who was great with numbers. She was also an avid reader, who learned to read at the age of 3 years old.

Grand Rapids – A decade-old program from the U.S. Department of Education that creates “Promise Neighborhoods” – places with great schools and strong supports for students – will infuse Grand Rapids with almost $30 million over the next five years thanks to one of the largest grants in the history of Western Michigan University.
… They will partner with a variety of Grand Rapids-based organizations to strengthen Grand Rapids Public Schools in a southeast quadrant of the city. The neighborhood being served by the grant includes one high school and a number of feeder schools. Partners will include GRPS, Baxter Community Center, Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative, Family Futures, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley State University, Kent ISD and LINC UP.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A new project at Grand Rapids Community College will change the Grand Rapids skyline.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on Monday, Jan. 17 this year and will be celebrated with marches, keynote speakers and community service in remembrance of the slain civil rights activist.

Autocam Medical, a global contract manufacturer of precision surgical and medical components and devices, presented 11 students with certificates of completion for their CNC Machinist Apprentice Program during a ceremony at the AMP Lab at Western Michigan University in Grand Rapids.
… The Grand Rapids Community College instructor, Andy Beach, an industry veteran with over 20 years of hands-on experience, emphasized the program’s benefits, saying, “students gain skills that put them on a career path with unlimited opportunity, and it helps build a ready workforce for the manufacturing industry, which is starving for CNC machinists.”
