Winter 2022 Homecoming GRCC Spirit Award

We are excited to announce that Maria McKee (employee) and Penni Weninger (retiree) are the 2022 GRCC Spirit Award recipients!  Maria and Penni were selected based on meeting the Award criteria symbolized by the letters GRCC – G-Genuine, R-Radiant, C-Captivating and C-Caring.

Maria McKee is the Language Arts Tutorial Lab Coordinator.  Her nominators shared that “Maria is as authentic as they come—she runs the lab in a way that reflects her values while being open and accepting of all others! “ “Everything Maria does in the Language Lab has the interest of the students in mind.” “Because of Maria, all tutors are aware of services that GRCC can provide if a student has financial, safety, or academic concerns.”  “She has been a fearless leader during the pandemic and strictly enforced the campus Covid policies in order to keep both staff and students safe.  Everything she does is in the best interest of students and staff, and we are all so very lucky to have her!”

Penni Weninger retired from the Human Resources department.  To quote her nominator, Penni “has a big personality and is true to her nature”.   Her “…personality carries over to exuberance about the College and love for all things GRCC”.  “While employed she always went the extra mile for students and as a retiree she continues to engage in activities focused on students” and the greater community.  “Penni would give anyone in need the shirt off her back.  She has a big heart and she’s always there for those who need her.  Her circles are many and she shares her compassion with all.  She is a devoted spouse and mother.  She has a large group of GRCC friends, some still in the workforce, others who are retired.” Penni has earned this award.

Congratulations, Maria and Penni, you are truly deserving of the 2022 GRCC Spirit Award!
