Celebrating Pride Month

GRCC’s LGBTQ+ Inclusive Fundamentals Team, CAP 3.4, is dedicated to supporting GRCC’s greater commitment to equity and GRCC’s values of diversity, innovation, respect, and responsiveness. The CAP team wants to provide resources that highlight and celebrate LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, students, and the larger GRCC Family.

Each June, LGBTQ+ communities and allies from around the world honor the Stonewall Riots of 1969 and the advancements made, and yet to be made, for LGBTQ+ people everywhere. There are multiple Pride Celebrations in Michigan. See the 2022 Michigan LGBTQ+ Pride Calendar for details of these events.

The CAP team is offering a free copy of the “A Quick & Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns” book. This is a great and quick read, and the authors explain what pronouns are, why they matter, and how to use them. The publishers note the authors include what to do if you make a mistake, and some tips-and-tricks for those who identify outside of the binary to keep themselves safe in this binary-centric world.

Anyone interested in getting the book can fill out the request form by June 15. Once the books are ordered, the CAP team will send them through interoffice mail. When you’re done reading it, feel free to keep it, pass it on, or pass it back.

We also want to highlight our community advocates and partners: Grand Rapids Pride CenterStandOutUnited Campus Christian Fellowship, and Grand Rapids Trans Foundation.

A diagnosis of celiac disease in 2019 led Aaron Muller to embark on a journey he never imagined he would take.

… Because eating out suddenly became difficult, if not impossible, Muller enrolled in the Secchia Institute for Culinary Studies at Grand Rapids Community College and started cooking all his family’s meals at home.

Tech Tip: Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

GRCC Information Technology will be requiring a  new security measure to protect your GRCC Google Account! Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an additional layer of security in verifying your identity.

It also helps to prevent attackers from logging into your account in the unfortunate event that an attacker obtains your password.

There are few ways to verify your identity while logging into your GRCC email account such as receiving a verification code via SMS to your established phone number or selecting Yes on your phone when prompted by Google.

Once you have successfully logged in using 2FA on a trusted computer/device that you designate, you should not be prompted with 2FA again. However, if you login via VMware, you will be prompted to verify your identity each new VMware session.

Turn on 2-Step Verification

As a reminder, all staff Google account users will be required to enroll in 2FA by June 2, 2022. Starting May 16, all users that do not have 2FA setup will receive a prompt to do so upon login to their Google Account
