Employees ‘caught’ showing off customer service skills

1112-3743 Excellence Guidlines

The Student Feedback Management Team is looking to develop a way to recognize employees on campus who have been “caught” demonstrating excellent customer service. As we determine that process, we’d like to start sharing recognitions with you now as we receive them of people who fully role model the GRCC Service Excellence Guidelines.

OB Gladyness, custodian in the Student Center

“I observed this yesterday – He stopped what he was doing to assist a student to find the Main Building. She identified herself as a new student. It wasn’t just the assistance in helping a new student navigate a location that impressed me. He was smiling, talking with the student and saying encouraging comments. He was also listening to the student express how she felt about being new. e.g. ‘You will get this all figured out. It will be OK, you will love it here.’ When she thanked him he said, ‘No problem — I am happy I could help you.’ Service excellence at its best with enthusiasm, a smile, listening and sensing a student needed assistance.”

Alex Moore, Accounts Payable

“You couldn’t ask for a better co-worker than Alex! He is always upbeat, has a smile on his face, and will go the extra mile for anyone. If you are in a pinch, he will jump right in to help you with his great attitude and a smile, and will never skip a beat. If you were in a bad mood or down when you came to work, Alex would have you cracking up within the half-hour. Alex is very deserving of this (recognition), as he goes above and beyond the GRCC Raider Values each and every day.”

Payroll Department issues ‘to-do’ list

A 2012 year-end “to-do” list from Payroll:

  • Using your most recent electronic pay stub, please verify the spelling of your first and last name, mailing address and withholding allowances.  If any information is incorrect, please immediately contact the Payroll Office at extensions 4018, 3965 or 4038.  The information on your pay stub is what will be printed on your W-2.
  • New W-4s should be filled out if you’re filing status or exemption allowances have changed.  Forms are available on the payroll website,  or stop by the payroll office in the Cook Administration Building.
  • If you are currently filing “exempt” on your W-4 (State and/or Federal), you are required to complete a new W-4 no later than February 1, 2013. Forms are available on the payroll website,  or stop by the payroll office.
  • If you would like a copy of your last 2012 pay stub with year-to-date information, please remember to print your December 21, 2012, pay stub no later than January 2, 2013. Year-to-date amounts will only be available on your last pay stub of 2012, until we process the first pay check for 2013.

Be energy smart during 2012 Thanksgiving break

A message from energy manager Dorothy Sadony:

As you prepare to leave for the Thanksgiving break, please remember this simple but vital concept: If you won’t be using something, make sure it won’t be wasting energy.

Whether you’re faculty, staff, or a student worker at GRCC, you’ll soon leave behind a room full of appliances and electronic devices that suck valuable electricity from the wall as long as they’re plugged in —  even if they’re turned off.

To make sure that we do not waste any energy this weekend, please remember to:

  • shut off all computers and monitors in your classroom when classes are done on Tuesday, November 20.
  • look around the room before closing that door for the long weekend — is there anything still powered “on” that doesn’t need to be?
  • turn off your computer, monitor, speakers, and local printers.
  • unplug chargers for cell phone, camera, and other electronics.
  • unplug any small appliances, if possible.
  • close the curtains and blinds.

After taking those steps, you can enjoy the holiday knowing you did your part to help save energy and the environment.
