Condolences to the family and friends of Roland Gani

Roland Gani, a longtime faculty member in the English Department, died this week.

Visitation is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Drive SW in Grandville. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Park Church of God, 3450 Michael Ave. SW in Wyoming.

Condolences to Dr. Kenneth Bos

Our deepest condolences to Dr. Kenneth Bos on the passing of his mother Jessie Bos, after four months at Faith Hospice Trillium Woods. Jessie was 96 years old. The funeral service was held on Monday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Christian Reformed Church in Holland. Ken has asked that any donations be designated for Warm Friends in Holland. This is the retirement community where Ken’s mom lived for the past five years. The obituary may be read here.

Condolences to Dr. Carol VanRandwyk

Our deepest condolences to Dr. Carol VanRandwyk on the passing of her father, Gerrit. Mr. Gerrit H. VanRandwyk, age 90, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 in Haslett, MI. He was born on November 9, 1923 in Muskegon to Henry C. & Dora (Duiser) VanRandwyk. Gerrit married the former Evelyn Holtrop on May 13, 1949 in Muskegon, MI, and they moved to Okemos, MI in 1965. Gerrit worked for the Public Broadcasting Station, WKAR at Michigan State University for 30 years before retiring. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country in WWII for the 75th Joint Assault Company. Gerrit was a member of River Terrace Christian Reformed Church in East Lansing. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Thomas E. Frazier) VanRandwyk; three grandchildren, Candace Marie (Michael Herrick) Cowen, Justin Gerrit Corey, and Steven Edward Corey; one great-granddaughter, Katherine Aurora Herrick; and brother, John VanRandwyk. Memorials sent to the GRCC Foundation Corey-VanRandwyk Memorial Scholarship would be appreciated, and may be sent to GRCC Foundation, 143 Bostwick NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503. Condolences to the friends and family of David Slezak

David Slezak, valued colleague and longtime tutor in the ATC Tutorial and Open Computer lab, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening after experiencing cardiac arrest on Sunday, Oct 12.

Dave was a very special person who persevered through many challenges but always enjoyed coming to the “lab” and assisting our students. He will be deeply missed.

His family will receive visitors Friday 2 – 7 pm at Arsulowicz Brothers Mortuary – Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd NW. Ronald Weidenfeller

Ronald L. Weidenfeller, 67, of Apex, NC passed away on Monday August 25th. Ron was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and continued on to receive a BA from the University of Notre Dame, an MA from Grand Valley State University and an MBA from Western Michigan University. Ron was a professor of Business at Grand Rapids Community College for 33 years.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Families gathered Saturday at the Grand Rapids Public Museum for the first annual Grand Rapids Mini Maker Faire, an event that featured a variety of models and displays.

… Grand Rapids Community Foundation announced it has broken the $1 million mark in scholarships, and Grand Rapids Community College noted that $62,000 of that amount went to its students. This year, the foundation provided 642 scholarships, with 44 of those awards going to GRCC students.
