Behind the kitchen door…Q&A Jared Miller

April 4, 2014; MLive

Having worked his way up the Amway Grand Plaza culinary ladder, Executive Chef Jared Miller began sharing his playful, yet humble skill set at the Gilmore Collection about ten years ago. His main base is at The B.O.B., but he does occasionally find his way to the other Gilmore Collection restaurants. This family man loves ethnic foods and flavors and feels a deep connection between food and music yet enjoys the simplicity of a good cup of coffee… and a bowl of cereal. Taste the symphonic influence of this culinary architect as he continues learning and growing.

Culinary education: Hard Knocks. I worked in restaurants in South Haven during summers in high school, and then enrolled in GRCC’s culinary program. But school wasn’t my thing, so I opted out, landed a job at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, worked and moved my way up the ladder in almost every site over the course of seven years. This is the base of my education, along with a lot of ambition and self-teaching through playing with a lot of different things in those kitchens as often as I wanted. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a lot of very talented chefs there. Of course, I am still learning daily.

April 6, 2014; The Lanthorn (GVSU student newspaper)

The No. 17 Grand Valley State University baseball team outscored Ohio Dominican University 21-4 in a three-game sweep over the weekend as a trio of junior college transfers paved the way for 10-0, 2-0 and 9-4 Laker wins.

… Grand Rapids Community College transfer Aaron Jensen (4-2) followed up Nietfeldt’s impressive performance by giving up just two hits in 5.2 scoreless innings.
