New Insights Magazine from Pine Rest Employee Assistance Program

Pine Rest is excited to announce a new magazine called Insights. The first issue focuses on anxiety disorders and is entitled, “Anxiety.” The magazine is online as a PDF as well as html pages at: www.pinerest.org/anxiety.

Having an anxiety disorder can make a major impact in the workplace. People may turn down a promotion or other opportunity because it involves travel or public speaking; make excuses to get out of office parties, staff lunches, and other events or meetings with coworkers; or be unable to meet deadlines.

In a national survey on anxiety in the workplace, people with anxiety disorders commonly cited these as difficult situations: dealing with problems; setting and meeting deadlines; maintaining personal relationships; managing staff; participating in meetings, and making presentations.

EAPs are intended to help employees deal with the personal problems that might adversely impact their health, and well-being.

100 Ways to Give: job-shadowing successful for GRCC students

To commemorate GRCC’s 100th Anniversary – 100 Ways to Give, during the month of October, Finance and Administraton’s Management Staff provided job shadow opportunities to interested students. Opportunities were provided in Accounting, Campus Police, Cashiers, Event Management, Facilities, Financial Aid, Human Resources and Purchasing. The students appreciated these rich opportunities for engagement and Finance and Administration would like to thank each student who participated!

Flu shots will be administered during the benefit fair, there is no cost for employees who have insurance through Priority Health, WMHIP or MESSA but you must bring your insurance card with you in order for Spectrum Health to bill on your behalf.

Changes in Human Resources

We are making some changes in Human Resources that will help us to reduce expense while continuing to provide excellent customer service. We are not going to fill the Director of Staff Development position and are taking the opportunity to do some internal reorganization. The following is a brief overview of some changing roles:

  • Associate Director of Human Resources Jessica Berens — Jessica will assume the operational leadership role of the staff development functions while maintaining several key Meet & Confer processes and responsibilities in HR.
  • Meet & Confer Human Resources Generalist Christine Davis — Christine will assume the role of the Human Resources Generalist for the Meet & Confer employee group while maintaining several components of her technical HRIS position in HR.

PACE survey results released

GRCC has received our PACE survey results. You will find two reports on the Human Resources reports page: http://grcc.edu/humanresources/reports

The first report shows our data collected in the NILIE personnel classification format. This allows for our data to be compared with the norm data (69 other two year institutions participated in PACE). The second report shows our data collected by our GRCC divisions, employee groups and ethnicity.

We are very pleased with the overall results. NILIE states that “At GRCC, the overall results from the PACE instrument indicate a healthy campus climate, yielding an overall 3.63 mean score or mid consultative system.”

However, it is important that we use the data to improve as an institution. As we did with the last set of PACE results, we will be offering sessions for employees to learn more about the results and to talk about what improvement looks like. We will focus on the top ten areas of improvement (all located within the institutional structure set of questions). Sessions will be announced via the Staff Development office and one will be included in the upcoming “Coffee and Conversation with President Ender”. Important Drug and Alcohol Policy and DAAPP Annual Report

The GRCC Drug and Alcohol Policy and Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program (DAAPP) Annual Report 2013 have recently been updated and are available for your review online by clicking here.

GRCC prohibits the use of alcohol and recreational drugs on campus.  The alcohol and drug related health risks, prevention and intervention resources, college discipline, and legal sanctions are outlined in these two documents.
