Faculty Learning Day Featuring Dr Constance Staley – Photos
GRCC’s faculty returned to campus for a bit of reflection and professional growth with a day of learning opportunities, the keynote of which was a presentation by Dr. Constance Staley, Professor of Communication and Director of Freshman Seminar Program at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Her presentation was titled Developing and Supporting a Resilient Faculty and was designed to help faculty bounce back, even in the face of adversity.

Grand Rapids Community College has now partnered with the Grand Rapids Public Museum to make the holdings of the museum available to GRCC faculty and students for use in teaching classes. On January 6, 2010 the faculty attended a workshop at the museum to learn about incorporating hands-on learning at the museum into their lesson plans. The All-Employee Learning Day for the Winter 2010 semester kicks off 1/5/10 at 7:30am in the Ford Fieldhouse:
- 7:30-8:30 a.m. Continental Breakfast in Fieldhouse
- 8:30-10 a.m. Dr. Ender address
- 10:15-11:45 a.m. School Meetings
- Arts & Science in Room 200 Music Building*
- Workforce Development in ATC Auditorium
- Afternoon – Department Meetings — check with your Dept. Head
- 4, 5 & 6 p.m. Online/Hybrid orientation for students – ATC Open Computer Lab Classroom
- 5:30- 9 p.m. Adjunct Faculty Meetings
- Arts & Science in the Raider Grill (aka The cafeteria) in the Student Center
- Workforce Development in the ATC Banquet Rooms (rooms 118, 120, 122, 124)
* The Arts & Science School Meeting will begin at 10:15 a.m. or 15 minutes after Dr. Ender’s presentation if it concludes before 10:15.
Special Faculty Learning Day at the Museum 1/6/10
Reminder: GRCC's special faculty learning day at the Grand Rapids Public Museum will kick off at 7:30 a.m. on January 6, 2010.
Grand Rapids Community College’s Faculty Learning Day provides faculty the opportunity to engage in an active reflection of what it means to be educators. Further, it serves as a professional development event that supports the renewal of faculty intellectual energy and engagement with College and community colleagues. In partnership with Grand Rapids Public Museum, this Faculty Learning Day will ask faculty to consider their roles as curators of learning.
Faculty who will lead sessions at the museum include Ann Alexander, Sandy Andrews, Debora DeWitt, Dan Gendler, Luann Keizer, Sherry Knoppers, Sarah Krajewski, Maryann Lesert, Mike Light, Kimberly Overdevest, Eve Sidney, and Tore Skogseth. Faculty Learning Day is administered by Instructional Support and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Opening remarks, a brief keynote and closing remarks will be made by GRCC President Dr. Steven Ender, Grand Rapids Museum CEO and President Dale Robertson and Museum Director of Education, Interpretation and Research Christian G. Carron.
Faculty are encouraged to carpool or use the DASH which picks up in front of the Ford Fieldhouse every 20 minutes starting at 5:45 a.m. For more information or to register for sessions, visit: www.grcc.edu/facultylearningday
