Toner Scam Alert

Someone is calling departments and telling them they want to send them an order for toner for their Canon and also where the billing should go to. The college’s process on toner order has not changed.   Departments are to get their toner cartridges from Print Solutions.

Notice from Print Solutions on Quick Copy Requests

Print Solutions is working very hard to keep up with the new semester demand for quick copy. We are making every accommodation to get jobs done on a first come first serve basis. Currently we are working on orders that are due for Monday morning that have been submitted to us earlier this week. We are running a second shift as well as working on the weekend and we will try to get the orders completed that were sent in today (Friday the 7th) that are due Monday the 10th however we cannot guarantee completion. These will most likely be completed Tuesday or Wednesday. Thank you very much for your patience during this time of year. In the future, to ensure that you receive your orders when needed, please submit them as early as possible. It would also be helpful to only order items that you need for start up and not the whole semester.

Reminder: More Canon Printer/Copiers on the way

Tuesday Canon will be rolling in more of the new copier/printers. These will be placed by your current copier/printer unless there is not enough room. A couple Canon’s have been installed and IT is improving the process while getting student labs ready for the new semester. The full roll out will start in January. We will start by replacing the HP 9040’s with a target completion date of January 30th for the first 25 printers. The offices that currently have HP 9040’s will be contacted for a installation and training date.

So, What’s up With the new Copiers/Printers?

Well some of you have already received a present in your work area and others will be seeing their present before the shutdown. What is that present you ask? It is a new multifunction device, copier/printer that will copy, print, scan, and fax.  This device holds a new way of getting:

  • Your documents on paper
  • In database storage, image now
  • Sending an email or fax and
  • Yes even double sided prints, called duplexing
  • Assisting in the efforts to work environmentally smarter.

Another wonderful feature is the ability to swipe your Raider Card, choose:

  • Department-for business copy/printing
  • Personal- No more figuring out how to pay for that personal print or waiting in line at the cashiers to make that payment.

Don’t worry if you forget to bring that ID in from your car, you can also log in just like you do in the morning to start your computer.

When will you be able to start using your present?

Canon Business Solutions will be on campus this week and next to set-up, already chosen test sites, so that our hard working IT department can test the software they have been so busy putting together the past few weeks. Thank you IT team.  The goal is to:

  • Have labs loaded and ready for the start-up of the Winter Semester
  • Lab Coordinators trained
  • Lab Coordinators ready to assist students in this new technology
  • The remainder of staff office areas set-up after semester start-up replacing the HP9040 models first with the remainder models to follow, unless your HP device dies first

  • If you still need some assistance, your office ESP will gladly assist you or the instructions at the device should guide you through the basic process.

GRCC Looking for Student Models

As GRCC continues to build its library of students on campus to be used in promotional materials (like catalogs, brochures, billboards and posters), the Graphic Services department is building a list of students willing to be photographed.  Students of all ages and nationalities are needed, and the college is looking for students who represent the broad geographic region that that we serve.  Interested students can email Graphic Services with a photo of themselves and some basic information (where they’re from) at grccdesign@me.com

New Printing System Coming Soon

The College will soon be implementing new multifunction devices along with new software that is exciting in many ways. One big advantage is you no longer have to jog to the printer to claim your printout before someone else reads it. The job will wait for you.
Here’s how Secure Release Here works. After submitting print jobs from their computer, users simply:

1. Walk up to any Pharos-enabled printer and authenticate themselves by swiping their campus card
2. Select and release their jobs using the Pharos print release screen, and then collect their printouts

Secure Release Here offers numerous benefits:

  • Cost savings − Saves money by reducing print volumes, allowing confidential documents to be printed safely on cost-effective network printers, and eliminating the need for expensive 4-hour or same-day service (if a printer is down, users simply release their jobs at another printer)
  • Green printing − Significantly reduces printing waste because users release only the jobs they really need, unreleased jobs are eventually deleted by the system, and banner pages are unnecessary
  • Document security − Holds jobs until their owners arrive at the printer and release them
  • Device security − Ensures that only authorized people can use your devices
  • Flexibility − Gives users the ability to release their print jobs at any Pharos-enabled device

Secure Release Here also captures walk-up/copy usage, frees IT from having to manage hundreds of print queues and various print drivers, and eliminates piles of unclaimed printouts and oh by the way, no more copy codes to remember.

GRCC is committed to helping the environment, and making printing friendlier for students, faculty, and staff.

Important Printer / Multi-Print Update

Print Solutions has signed a new printer contract with Cannon. This contract will bring ease of printing, more privacy and much needed new printers to campuses for both students, faculty and staff. What does this mean for you? In the next few weeks we will be completing an assessment of your printing needs to determine which type of printer(s) you will be receiving. We will be creating a video and fact sheet explaining all of the new and amazing printing capabilities we will have with our new partnership.

One very exciting aspect of the new system is that multi-function machines will now “wait” to print your project until you are right at the machine – ANY machine – you are near. This means if you have a print job and you send it to the Multi-Function machine – all machines will patiently wait for you to enter your code or swipe your Raidercard and the job will be charged to your department account AND will be printed immediately from the machine you are using. No more going to one specific machine! We will also still have the printing / copy machines (non-multi functioning with scanning/etc.) installed as well.

Please know that we do understand many of you are waiting for new printers and new service on existing printers. We will be making the changeover soon and will be continuing service on machines you have while we assess and then make the switchover.

Thank you for your excitement and patience as we improve our service to you and GRCC.
