Effective Feedback Principles

Wednesday May 2, 2018 (9:00 am – 12:00 pm)

With many organizations, the use of effective feedback and recognition are communication tools that many leaders do not take advantage of to increase performance, build productive relationships, and maximize retention. Often feedback is given only if a problem exists and unknowingly the techniques used for this corrective feedback actually have the opposite effect intended. As human beings, we often hunger for feedback. However, many people will tell you that when they do get feedback, it’s often because of something they have done wrong. This course is designed to help workplace leaders learn how to provide feedback any time that the message is due. Whether feedback is formal or informal, and whether it is provided to employees, peers, or someone else, there are ways that it can be structured to be effective and lasting. This course will help participants learn why the way we deliver is feedback is important, how to deliver a message so that people accept it and make changes that may be needed, and how to accept feedback that we are offered.

GRCC Leadership Institute – Apply now!

GRCC’s Leadership Institute is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 cohort. The Leadership Institute is designed to strengthen the leadership skills of individuals and unite a community of leaders through two related programs: The Leadership Coaching Institute and The Leaders Institute.

The Leadership Coaching Institute equips experienced leaders to act as coaches for developing leaders. This program consists of 2 workshops in the fall semester that train participants to act as leadership coaches. Participants then coach a developing leader in The Leaders Institute for one year starting in the winter semester.

The Leaders Institute trains up-and-coming leaders by focusing on self-awareness, ingenuity, best practices, experiential learning and coaching. In addition to providing the support of a leadership coach, this program offers a flexible leadership development curriculum and requires participants to complete a Stretch Assignment that is strategically relevant to GRCC. This program begins in the winter semester.

All GRCC faculty and staff are invited to apply. Applications for both of these programs are due by September 21, 2011 Participation is limited. Nominations are also welcome. For application materials and more information, including program guides, please go to www.grcc.edu/leadershipinstitute or contact MaryBeth Beighley, Director of Staff Development by email: mbeighley@grcc.edu;  or phone: 234-3529.

Today is Global Wind Day

Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on June 15. It is a day for discovering wind, its power, and the possibilities it holds to change our world. GRCC is working hard to provide all the education and training necessary for this important clean and renewable source.

It is also a day for discovery of the work that has already begun by pioneers around the world. In more than 75 countries around the world, including Michigan, wind farms are in operation.

GRCC’s Workforce Training department offers a Wind Safety Certification; as well as, a 3-day Competent Climber and Tower Rescue training or a one day first aid training for Wind Technicians.
Thousands of individuals are involved in the production of energy from wind, but for many people, wind energy is a mystery. Global Wind Day is the day you can visit wind farms, meet experts, and find out everything you want to know about wind energy.

GRCC has partnered with internationally recognized YES/Safety Technology (YST) to develop and deliver an exceptional training program in the United States with the highest quality of wind technician safety training.

The certification obtained through this training is already recognized by major wind manufacturers and wind farm owners across the globe. Our courses are accredited by RenewableUK.

Courses also offered: Arc Flash – Arc Blast Awareness, Composite Technician, LockOut-Tag Out Awareness, and Permit Required Confined Space. Portions of our program focus on hands-on training on our 11 meter indoor climbing facility.

GRCC’s Tassell M-TEC currently houses an impressive scaffold system in its atrium that reaches all the way to the roof.  The equipment is being used to train instructors who will provide safety training for the maintenance technicians that repair and service alternative energy windmill farms.  For a full slideshow, click here.
