The Department of Homeland Security has teamed up with the Cybersecurity industry to provide information they believe everyone across the nation should know to stay safe and more secure online. The Week Three theme is “It’s Everyone’s Job to Ensure Online Safety at Work.”

October is National Security Awareness month

Every month the Information Security Team releases a newsletter containing information for GRCC students, staff, and faculty regarding Information Security Awareness. This month’s issue includes topics such as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, mobile phone security, and more.

This is the 15th year since National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) began. Each week there is a new topic to learn about and newsletter to read via links on GRCC’s Security Awareness webpage.

Respondus Monitor and LockDown now available for faculty

We are pleased to announce that Grand Rapids Community College is licensing the LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor for this upcoming school year. These tools are used to deter cheating during online exams and are free for you to use with your students!

We have scheduled a training webinar just for our faculty on Tuesday, August 21st, from 9:00 -10:00 a.m. You can join us in 347 Main or attend virtually! National Cyber Security Awareness Month

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM)

During the month of October 2017, the Department of Homeland Security offers weekly cyber security themes to aid in user awareness regarding current cyber threats and corrective responses to such threats. The GRCC IT Security team is hosting relevant security information on the IT Security webpage located at: http://www.grcc.edu/informationtechnology/itsecurity. Be sure to check it out weekly and remember, with all the current security breaches going on across the country, “don’t get scared…. get secured”.

 

DHS NCSAM Week Two Theme: Cybersecurity in the Workplace is Everyone’s Business

Creating a culture of cybersecurity is critical for all organizations ‒ large and small businesses, academic institutions, non-profits, and government agencies – and must be a shared responsibility among all employees. Week 2 will showcase how organizations can protect against the most common cyber threats. The week will also look at resources to help organizations strengthen their cyber resilience, including the use of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework.
