Weight Watchers at Work – Fall Series!

GRCC would like to continue offering Weight Watchers at Work, and we are looking for 15 or more employees to join in our success in order to continue the program. Our current members have collectively lost over 500 pounds since January!

Enjoy a 15% discount if you register by August 9th! Cost for the program is $132.60 for 12 weeks of on-campus meetings (on Thursdays) beginning September 6th and online e-tool access. After August 9th, the cost for the program will be $156. Did you also know that if you take advantage of the Flex Spending Account, the cost of the program could be covered with a medical necessity doctor’s note? Despite the toasty temperatures last week, participants in the Going the Distance at GRCC Walking Challenge logged over 1 million steps! Pictured are 4 Tread Shredders with their game faces on, while their other two teammates are working hard to catch up to the Sole Sisters, who are leading the pack! Who is going to take the lead this week?

Professional Development Recap: ‘Food for Life’ class

GRCC staff and faculty enjoyed the Food for Life programs nutrition and cooking classes, Foods that Fight Heart Disease and Foods for Healthy Weight this summer.

The Food for Life program is a community based nutrition education program, designed by physicians, nutrition experts, and registered dietitians aimed at preventing disease.

In this course you will learn about foods that will free you from counting calories and measuring portions… Power up your plate, maintain a healthy weight, and feel great! Class includes cooking demonstration and sampling.



– Learn how to identify common foods that lead to weight gain

– Describe elements of meals that lead to satiation to control cravings

– Learn how to identify common foods that are low in calorie density and satisfying

– Describe easy methods of healthy food preparation

The Bragg, Harvard, MuhammadSmith Why We Can’t Wait Fund launches its $3,000 inaugural GRCC Student Scholarship for students studying in criminal justices, education, and health-care areas and planning on public service careers!

  • First scholarships will be awarded for the Winter 2018 Semester.
  • Applications due by 5 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017.

Basic eligibility:

  • Non-GRCC Police Academy applications: 12 credit hours & 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • GRCC Police Academy students: Must be currently enrolled in the academy.

Application requirements:

  • Complete application by 5 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017.
  • Include one letter of reference.
  • Application link.
