Workshop looks at success, leadership

You use GPS when you’re traveling to an unfamiliar destination — but what’s your personal GPS on the route to success? And even if you think you have a plan, what’s your contingency if it takes a sudden turn off course?

Attorney Rasheed Ali Cromwell will present a workshop on Seeds of Success: Next Level Leadership — open to students, faculty and staff — from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 29 in the ATC auditorium.

The session is a collaboration between Student Alliance, the Woodrick Center and the Campus Climate CAP. Contact Tambor Bustance at tbustance@grcc.edu or Sophia Brewer at sbrewer@grcc.edu with questions.

Aberson Exhibits to Host Solo Art Exhibition Invocationns by award-winning Rick Stevens

Nov. 9, 2016; KMOV

Leading Tulsa-based art gallery Exhibit by Aberson is pleased to announce a solo art exhibition by artist Rick Stevens. Intriguingly entitled Invocations, the exhibition is scheduled from November 10 to December 3 at 3524B S Peoria Avenue Tulsa, OK.

… Son of a talented landscape painter, Rick grew up in Sparta, Michigan. Inspired by his dad’s evocative landscapes which echoed the wonder of rivers, wildlife and woods like magic, he went on to study fine arts at Grand Rapids Community College and the Kendall School of Design and Aquinas College. However, the most important lessons came from the woods themselves when, after graduation, he decided to spend his days meditating & absorbing life forces of the forest, in an isolated cabin. Further he met an Indian spiritual teacher who influenced his cultivation of yoga and meditation- and together with his study of transcendentalism; he found a way to connect to spiritual facets of nature.

Encourage students to attend interviews with GRCC presidential candidates

Student Life and Student Alliance are hosting interviews with the candidates for GRCC president. Students can meet and get  to know the candidates better. There have been some questions provided by students that will be asked of each candidate during the forum. Toward the end of the session, students will have the opportunity to provide impressions of each candidate. These impressions will remain anonymous and the feedback will be looked at by the Board of Trustees.

There will be four days of interviews. Each day will be dedicated to one of the finalists, with several segments facilitated and representing different groups on campus. Please encourage your students to attend at least one of the student segments between 10:45-11:30 a.m. Students are not required to attend all four sessions. However, their opinion will have more weight if they attend more than one session.

Please notify all your students, this is an important process of selecting GRCC’s next president. The Board of Trustees would like as much feedback as possible.

There will also be Subway for people to snack on!

RSVP on this event via OrgSync.com in the Events Portal or by emailing Lina Blair at carolineblair@grcc.edu or Jose Garcia at josegarcia7@grcc.edu.

GRCC hosts forum for Board of Trustee candidates

The Academic Governing Council (AGC), Faculty Association and Student Alliance hosted a community forum yesterday for the five candidates running for the three open Board of Trustee seats.

The format allowed each candidate to provide a five-minute introduction, biography and statement of reason for wanting to represent the community as a Board of Trustee member, including their philosophy of higher education, and perspective on our mission.

The candidates were also asked three questions in the following areas: the college’s values, the college’s ends as a series of pathways, and the role of the board and its members in a policy governance model.

Donate Blood With American Red Cross

Dec. 3, 2015; womenslifestyle.com

There’s no gift more thoughtful than the gift of blood to those in need. The American Red Cross is encouraging eligible donors to give blood and help ensure sufficient blood supply throughout the holiday season. A seasonal decline in donations often occurs from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day when donors get busy with family gatherings and travel, but patients don’t get a holiday vacation from needing lifesaving transfusions, so, it’s more crucial than ever to visit your local donation center this month.
