Social science research paper competition draws record number of entries

The Winners of the 2014 GRCC Social Science Department Student Research Paper Competition have been Announced!

“There were a record number of submissions to this year’s GRCC Social Science Department Student Research Paper Competition, and the selection process was very difficult,” said Dr. Robert Hendershot, chair of the Paper Competition Subcommittee, “but the faculty judges are pleased to be able to name the following winners:

1st Place:

Eyssy Moore

Paper Title: “Banana Incorporated: Corporate Interests, U.S. Foreign Policy, and Perpetual Poverty in Central America”

Class: HS293: Seminar on the History of American Foreign Relations

2nd Place:

Gretchen Robinson

Paper Title: “Israel’s Power to Influence”

Class: HS293: Seminar on the History of American Foreign Relations

3rd Place (tie):

Melissa Foster

Paper Title: “The Criminal Mind: Contributions to Criminal Behavior”

Class: SO270: American Families in Transition

3rd Place (tie):

Carla Villasana-Acosta

Paper Title: “Pablo Escobar: The Influence and Control of a Drug Lord in Colombia”

Class: HS230: The History of Latin America
