College student changes life, becomes Marine anti-tank missileman

CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan — A large number of young adults in the United States pursue college directly after graduating high school. While many students continue to pursue a degree, some decide to do something completely different.

… His (Corporal Jonathan Hollis’) superb grades ultimately earned him an engineering scholarship and he went on to pursue an education at Grand Rapids Community College. He continued to earn good grades with his unwavering work ethic and made the Deans list during his first year, but he wasn’t content.

Caring for an aging loved one

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — Caring for a loved one as they get older presents some difficult challenges.

Mike Faber from the Older Learner Center at Grand Rapids Community College visited the WZZM13 Noon News to share some advice for friends and family members who are stepping into a caregiver role. He encourages caregivers not to be afraid to seek out and ask for help, as well as to keep all options open in deciding what kind of care is best for your loved one.

100 Year Celebration — 100 backpacks

The Counseling and Career Center is planning on giving 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to the students at Coit school. If you are out shopping, please pick up one of the following items and drop them off at the front desk of the Counseling Center on the third floor of the Student Center:

  • pencils
  • pencil box/bag
  • erasers
  • folders ( 2 pocket)
  • lined paper
  • crayons
  • small hand sharpener
  • glue sticks
  • also they are in desperate need of children’s movies ( used are fine) for indoor recess
