VAN & MARINUS SWETS TRAVEL AWARD OPPORTUNITY FOR GRCC EMPLOYEES (non student employees)

This travel award is for fun, enjoyment, and relaxation. It is not intended to supplement any faculty, staff or administrator’s professional development travel funds. A cash award of up to $400 will be given to any full or part-time GRCC employee who completes the following requirements and has his or her essay judged the best to fulfill the employee’s intention to relax, enjoy and have fun.

Requirements:

1. Submit an essay (500 words or less) telling how you intend to use thecash award for fun, enjoyment, relaxation. The more unusual, the better!

2. Essays will not be judged on spelling, writing style, organization, usage or grammar.

3. Essays may be hand-written or typed. Do not put your name on the essay. Attach to the essay a sealed envelope containing your name and phone number. Write the last four numbers of your social security number in the upper right hand corner of the first page of the essay and on the outside of the envelope. Send the essay and envelope to Mary Reed, Grand Rapids Community College Foundation Office. All essays must be received by Friday, May 3, 2013.

4. All award winners will be notified by May 10, 2013.

GRCC names Chief Kevin Belk, Grand Rapids Press columnist Tom Rademacher distinguished alumni

Ithaca’s Niznak, Lansing Catholic’s Rush in the battle to be Chippewas’ QB

Alex Niznak and Cooper Rush each put together record-setting high school football careers in mid-Michigan.

… Ithaca’s Niznak and Lansing Catholic’s Rush are among three competing to be CMU’s starting quarterback this fall. They are battling junior Cody Kater, the lone Chippewa quarterback with college game experience. Kater took a couple of snaps last season for CMU and also played a season at Grand Rapids Community College.

RICHLAND, MI– In the past two seasons, the Gull Lake baseball program has compiled an eye-popping 74-5 record.

… Gull Lake has seven players expected to continue in the collegiate baseball ranks: Bradley, Owens (Kellogg Community College), Fish (Pierce College in Washington state), Fadden (Grand Rapids CC) and Janssen (Kalamazoo College); Gaudard and McPherson are undecided on a school.

Radiologic Technology students, staff participate in ‘Walk on Lansing’

On April 17, the GRCC Radiologic Technology students and staff participated in the RT “Walk on Lansing” sponsored by the MSRT, the ASRT and Lansing Community College. The event was held in support of the Mi C.A.R.E. legislation bill. If passed, the bill would require all medical imaging personnel to be educated and licensed in the state of Michigan. Over 300 imaging professionals and students attended the walk. The GRCC students met with the offices of 12 state representatives and one office agreed to co-sponsor the bill.
