Do You Supervise Student Employees?

Student Employment Services staff has created new training for all GRCC employees who are responsible for supervising student employees. Two sessions have been added to the Staff Development offerings:

  • Thu Aug 7, 2014 from 9:30-11 AM in Room 234N, Student Community Center (SCC)
  • Wed Aug 13, 2014 from 2:30-4 PM in Room 234N, Student Community Center (SCC)

Being the Strongest Link – The Supervisor’s Role

Supervisors of student employees can have a huge impact on their student employees. In this session we will discuss the role of the supervisor in student’s academic and overall success. We will introduce student employee supervisors to the newly created mid semester check in process. This will provide supervisors the opportunity to have a conversation with each student employee about their academic progress, and to refer them to appropriate resources if needed. Academic Support Center, Early Alert and Library staff will be on hand to discuss their services. Supervisors will also be educated on behaviors to look out for and when it’s appropriate to contact other campus resources including Campus Police, Counseling, and the Behavioral Intervention Team.

Please register online at http://www.grcc.edu/staffdevelopment/currentlearningopportunitiesregistration or by calling Staff Development at ext. 4285.

Boosting Fall Enrollment – Calling Campaign Volunteers Needed

Student Affairs is in need of volunteers to make phone calls to former students who have not yet enrolled for the Fall semester. An easy step-by-step guide for making and tracking calls is provided, and calls can be completed from your workstation/office. We are reminding students enrollment is open, answer questions, offer assistance, and finding out if the student plans to return to GRCC in the Fall. We currently have two lists of students we are reaching out to.

One of our callers commented: “I enjoyed speaking with the students who answered, offering them a bit of encouragement, and planting seeds where I could.”

We need your help in making phone calls, please contact the Student Affairs office 3925 or email studentaffairs@grcc.edu
