The English Department’s writing conference Who Cares? Why Bother? Real Writing for Real People was a big success in 2013.

We welcomed 33 presenters who wowed over 950 students with their impressive presentation styles and relevant ideas.

Students report learning that writing matters at GRCC, at four-year institutions, on social networking sites, in email communications and in fields ranging from computer programming, to chemistry, in criminal justice and the social sciences and beyond.

On Wednesday, Diversity Lecture Series presenter Emily Bazelon met with students and answered their questions about bullying.

On Thursday evening at our closing event, seven creative writers read their wonderful work, including poetry, fiction, memoir and creative nonfiction: Katie Kalisz, David Cope, Barb Saunier, Mursalata Muhammad, Krista Katrovas, Mike Sikkema, and Caitlin Horrocks.
