Proceeds from the Gala funded six $1,000 scholarships for local Hispanic students who attend Grand Rapids Community College:

Congratulations to Candace Cowling on Tribute! Award

Hearty congratulations to Candace Cowling, Executive Director at the Child and Family Resource Council, and wife of Klaas Kwant in the Media Technologies department for being honored with 2010 Tribute! Award in the Advocacy category from the YWCA.  Many in the GRCC community likely know Candace from the great work she does to make Grand Rapids a better place for the underserved.

For more than 30 years, the YWCA’s Annual TRIBUTE! Awards have honored over 175 women representing a distinguished sorority of leaders and trail-blazers.  Read more about Candace here.

IIPD Grant Applications Due 10/22/10

The deadline for submission of grant applications for the Instructional Improvement & Professional Development (IIPD) program is 4:30 p.m., October 22, 2010. Please note that the IIPD Guidelines and all application forms have been revised. The revised application packet and Guidelines are available in the IIPD and SSPD Grants section of the Grants Office website at www.grcc.edu/grants. Applications should be delivered to the GRCC Foundation Office, 1st floor, College Park Plaza. New Learning Opportunity Registration Process Effective 10/11/10

Through their efforts, when you register for a learning opportunity, it will be recorded directly into PeopleSoft.

Free Blood Pressure Screening

When is the last time you had your blood pressure checked? Have you been told you are hypertensive? Hypertension is known as the silent killer because it is deadly and has no early significant symptoms. Untreated hypertension can lead to and/or complicate many health problems, including coronary heart disease, stroke , kidney failure, heart failure, vision changes and blindness. The WE team, along with GRCC Nursing students is offering blood pressure screening several dates/times throughout the month of October. The first one is Thursday, October 14 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the following locations:

  • Winchester Alley
  • 4th floor Main
  • Raider Grill Foyer
  • 1st floor Science Bldg
